Homeland Season 8 is said to be the final outing of Claire Danes as Carrie Mathison, although nothing is officially confirmed yet. People behind and in front of the camera have been teasing for the final season that may be set in Israel. If it is the case, then fans can expect an intense turn of events as it will be the last time she will be investigating the President's connection with the Russians.
According to Variety, Carrie will be in recovery in Homeland Season 8 after she has been brutally confined in a Russian gulag. Although her body is recovering from all the bruises and pains, she is still suffering from memory loss.
Saul (Mandy Patinkin) will be engaging in a peace negotiation with the Taliban in Homeland Season 8. And although against the doctors' advice, he will ask Carrie to walk with him in the lion's den for the very last time.
In an interview with showrunner Alex Gansa, he told Radio Times Homeland Season 8 and Season 7 were originally planned to be "very closely tied together." It was supposed to tell one broad story that would put an end to the series.
Homeland Season 8 is planned to be set in a different country and might feature a major time jump after Season 7. "We get to play this last season in DC with the intention of taking us overseas for one last chapter," Gansa said. "Season eight will be overseas somewhere."
Earlier, Gansa hinted they would return to where it all began in Homeland Season 8. As the show started in Israel, they might go back to the country to tell its poetic story and end everything from here.
Gansa also earlier revealed Homeland Season 8 would be the final stretch of the show. He confirmed it would be his last year in the series, and it would be designed to be the end of its story. But, he could not say anything if it would also be the last time fans would see Danes and Patinkin as Carrie and Saul.
Gansa explained that if Fox, Danes, and Patinkin still wanted to continue the show, they could leave some room in the story for that to happen. Evidently, Danes and Patinkin would return to Homeland Season 8 with the newcomer Hugh Dancy.
The Hannibal actor, who is Danes' husband in real life, would play the role of John Zabel, a savvy Washington consultant and White House's new foreign-policy advisor to the President. He would also be Saul's new enemy in Homeland Season 8.
Showtime has yet to announce Homeland Season 8's official release date, but it is expected to be out anytime this year. So, fans still have to wait a little longer to confirm if it will be the show's ending.
