China has achieved another milestone in its goal of alleviating poverty in the coming years as it was revealed that three of seven minorities in the poverty reduction goal for 2019 have been lifted.
According to Xinhua, Yunnan Province's minority groups of Jino, Deang, and Dulong reached a 2.42 percent proportion of residents living in poverty. The figures are below the three percent range that lifts citizens from China's poverty list.
A couple of years back, the said minorities recorded a poverty proportion of 24.25. The significant drop in poverty numbers has driven China to further pursue its goal of alleviating seven minorities this year. For next year, Beijing looks to lift a total of 11 groups.
Beijing previously announced that its ultimate goal is to to establish a society that is moderately prosperous in all aspects of the economy by next year. To see this happen, the government has to lift an estimated 30 million less fortunate residents by 2020.
While some analysts have shed doubts about the achievability of Chinese President Xi Jinping's ultimate goals on lifting all citizens from poverty, other economists believe that it is actually possible.
Domestic economists pointed out that China has a long and sturdy history of determination. The Asian country has done the impossible a couple of times in the past and in Xi's regime, history repeating itself is not a far cry from reality, economic experts said.
As part of the Chinese government's goals of completely eradicating poverty in the country, local governments have been working to improve social security standards by creating more jobs both in urban and rural areas.
Economists said many Western analysts doubt China's will to achieve its goals because they only have knowledge of what the country has achieved so far. However, critics from the west do not understand the strong and organized system that China has been basing its economic plans to achieve certain goals.
Earlier this month, the World Bank acknowledged China's contributions to global poverty alleviation over the past four decades. Between 1978 and 2017, China lifted 740 million people, accounting for over 70 percent of the world's alleviated communities.
Last year, China lifted a total of 13.86 million people and Beijing is not stopping there. Some economic experts attributed this achievement to the government's opening-up initiative that paved the way for establishing more jobs.
The opening-up initiative has also supported Beijing's Belt and Road scheme that aims to improve infrastructure projects that connect China to other countries across the globe.
