If ever ABC asks for Station 19 Season 3, there will be a big change in the show after showrunner Stacy McKee's exit. The screenwriter writer decided to leave the series after two seasons as she reportedly has no plans to renew her contract with the network.
After the great news of Station 19 and Grey's Anatomy's crossover, comes devastating reports about McKee's exit that shakes the world of the firefighting drama. So if ever there will be Station 19 Season 3, ABC has to look for someone who will replace her, per Cinema Blend.
McKee's decision comes as a big surprise as she has been part of the growing Grey's Anatomy family since the show began in 2005. In her 13 years of service, she started as a production staffer until she became story editor, writer, producer, and now an executive producer. She was even the one who created Station 19.
Unfortunately, after two seasons and ahead of the possible Station 19 Season 3, she would walk away from the show. However, her exit is reportedly not because of any scandalous drama or foul events, but The Hollywood Reporter noted she chose not to renew her overall deal with ABC Studios that would soon expire. McKee said to be aiming to look for a new career opportunity outside the "Shondaland" series.
Station 19 Season 2 has officially wrapped up its production, so McKee waited for the show to get completed before her exit. But come Station 19 Season 3, there should be a new showrunner that would oversee the series if ever ABC renews the show.
If ABC blessed fans with Station 19 Season 3, there would surely be a new person to handle it. Now, the big question is if it would affect the show's story or should it concern the viewers?
According to CarterMatt, there are a lot of shows that have changed its showrunners over the years; even Grey's Anatomy has done it many times. As McKee waited for Station 19 Season 2 to wrap up before she exits and ABC has yet to order for Station 19 Season 3, it will give the network an ample amount of time to look for someone to replace her.
It will also give the new showrunner the time to study all of the things about the show before Station 19 Season 3 starts. Regarding the renewal, ABC may decide on the series' future when Season 2 ends mid-May, the same time when the network's upfront presentation happens.
