It's no longer a secret that Sony is currently working on the game console to replace the PlayStation 4, which likely will unbox as the PlayStation 5. Now it only makes sense that the PS5 will come out as a monster contraption if only to exceed what its predecessor has achieved. And rumors have it the machine will rock and roll brandishing a combo of CPU and GPU in the muscle car class.
Already, Sony has teased that the PS5 will boast of hardware capable of blowing the minds of hardcore gamers. In the processing department, the console maker said AMD will supply the necessary firepower via the Zen 2 CPU in 7nm class, indicating that the gaming device will be exploding in energy in real-world use.
AMD will also take charge in juicing up the GPU prowess of the PS4 sequel and will make it happen through the deployment of Radeon graphics built on the upcoming 7nm Navi architecture. Such monstrosity is thought sufficient to deliver 4K to 8K gaming experience with the PS5.
These specs Sony has previously confirmed and industry insider Benji-Sales has decided to add his voice on the chatter. In a tweet that he decided to delete, later on, the leaker talked of a PS5 devkit that runs on 13 teraflops or close to that level.
"It's looking like the PS5 kit is running a nearly 13TF GPU. Pairing with a Zen 2 CPU and (hopefully) a ton of ultra-fast RAM, and it's a beast," the tweet from Benji-Sales stated.
If this level of GPU performance will prove correct for the PS5 then this upcoming machine is destined to tower over its competition come judgment time. To date, the closest rivals are the Microsoft Xbox One X and PS4 Pro, which at their best managed to showcase 6TF and 4.2TF, respectively.
Effectively, the latest leak is saying the forthcoming PlayStation effort from Sony is something to watch for as it will leave the other consoles too far behind, packing at least twice the power than any of the challengers can afford.
It's interesting to note as well that the PS5 will most likely debut pimped up by an SSD storage device, and that translates to speed adding up to the machine's already potent arsenal.
So it's understandable that this early the excitement for the PlayStation 5 is starting to build up. But it will be a long wait as Sony has already made clear there will be no release to happen this 2019. Game time or the earliest release date for the PS5, according to The Verge, is the last quarter of 2020.
