It seems like Twitter is now at the forefront of political views as questions regarding free speech arise. Tensions came to a head when President Donald Trump lashed out at Twitter co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey for banning American actor James Woods on the popular social media site.

According to the Breitbart, James Wood was banned after sharing a quote where he states that "If you try to kill the King, you best not miss" and ending that one with the hashtag "#HangThemAll." Apparently, that got Twitter in a firestorm and got the veteran actor known for his extremely conservative views the boot from the site.

And to no one's surprise, that got the Twitter finger trigger-happy Donald Trump all fired up, and he tweeted this little gem himself.

"How can it be possible that James Woods (and many others), a strong but responsible Conservative Voice, is banned from Twitter?"

News started to spread that known Donald Trump's fellow Republican, Ted Cruz, backed the president's outrage and decided to go after famous comedian Jim Carrey with a tweet. A lot of people who read it instantly surmised that Cruz was trying to get the Ace Ventura star thrown out of Twitter. However, according to Celebrity Insider, by looking closely at the Tweet, Ted Cruz was not exactly clamouring for Carrey's removal from Twitter. Check out his tweet and see if Ted Cruz really wanted to have Jim Carrey banned.

"How is it that @RealJamesWoods is currently being banned on Twitter, but @JimCarrey is not? It's certainly not any standard based on "hate." Carrey's latest Twitter "art" shows Bill Barr drowning in a sea of vomit. @Jack - how 'bout we let everybody speak and the People decide?"

Looking at the last part, it seems as if Ted Cruz is just pointing out the double standard when it comes to extremist political speech. To his credit, he never did outright call for the banning of Jim Carrey, but is hoping that the social media just let its users exercise their freedom of speech rights without fear of being thrown out and silenced.

The mudslinging between America's left and right political side has been going on for centuries. And with sites like Twitter now becoming the most prominent mouthpiece in our world, expect to see more political controversies with the top Social media sites.
