However, as the project is going through "development hell," he has decided to refuse other alternatives. He's taking summer time off to practice his first right as a single parent to his children -- spend time with them. It's true. Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne are the six children directly affected by the divorce, which the court has recently granted a dissolution favoring both Pitt and Hollywood star Angelina Jolie to separate from their marriage.
While no final detail is clear regarding the custody battle between Brad and Angelina, legal standings show that Angelina is still fighting for sole custody while Brad Pitt insists on having joint custody meaning the kids can stay either or each parent. But, as Brad Pitt clears his summer schedule to repair his relationship with his kids, Angelina Jolie has now abandoned the "Pitt" name with her legal right to her original surname restored.
The custody battle remains fierce and continuing. Atlanta divorce attorney Randy Kessler mentioned in one interview that California's court, which is handling the Pitt-Jolie custody battle, is going slowly to "get it right" and avoid "rushing out of it." He said they mean well because the court sounds like "it is trying to protect the children."
Brad Pitt's issue with marijuana and alcohol addiction may have played a huge role in Angelina Jolie's divorce claim against him. According to Brad Pitt himself during an interview with The Sun UK two years ago, he can't "remember a day since college" that he didn't smoke marijuana or drink alcohol. He had admitted that the drinking problem had torn apart his marriage of two years and enduring relationship with Angelina for 15 years.
However, he was remorseful in his statement. He said he felt his breakup with Angelina as a form of "death," and he said he did not want to live in anger and hatred against her. While these addictions were on loudspeaker with every press in the world during that time, Brad admitted that he has now resorted to drinking cranberry juice or sparkling water -- citing his will to just "not live that way anymore."
