Quicksand was recently released on Netflix, dropping all its six episodes on April 5. Now, many are curious about the future of the show, particularly if it will be renewed for a second season. Here's what we know so far about Quicksand season 2.

Quicksand, or Störst av allt in Swedish, follows the story of a teen who was put in trial for murder as some of her fellow students ended up being killed. Set in a wealthy Stockholm suburb, the Swedish teen drama series is said to be similar to Netflix Original 13 Reasons Why and Elite - both proved to be a hit and renewed for another season.

But the question is, will Netflix renewed Quicksand for a second season as well? Right now, it is too early to tell if the show will return for season 2 or not. The series has just recently dropped on Netflix, so it's highly unlikely the streaming giant will make an early announcement about its renewal status.

Reportedly, Netflix considers a series or movie watched if 70 percent of the total running time - plus the credits - have been watched. The first season of the show was released in April, so if ever Quicksand season 2 will be given a green light, it would probably back around the same month in 2020. Netflix might order another six episodes, and it will be available to stream all at once.

The plot of Quicksand season 2 is still unknown. It can be noted that the series is based on the 2016 book of the same name written by Swedish author Malin Persson Giolito, but then, there is no sequel. So, it is possible that the next installment will set up a new story. Some also speculated the second season picks up the events that happened in the first one but will follow other characters in the series.

In season 1, the show focused on a high school teenager Maja (portrayed by Hanna Ardéhn) who was on trial for murder following a tragedy happened at her school. It also follows Maja's romance with her boyfriend Sebastian (Felix Sandman), and flashback events that lead to the tragedy.

Aside from Ardéhn and Sandman, other cast members expected to return in Quicksand season 2 includes William Spetz (Samir Said), Anna Björk (as Camilla Norberg), Helena af Sandeberg (Mimmi Steen), Arvid Sand (Lars-Gabriel Labbe Sager-Crona), Rebecka Hemse (Jeanette Nilsson), Reuben Sallmander (Claes Fagerman), David Dencik (Peder Sander),  Ella Rappich (Amanda Steen), and Maria Sundbom (Lena Pärsson).

But as mentioned, if Quicksand season 2 will focus on a new story setting, then the show might introduce new and additional characters.
