The end has come for the first installment of Dr. Max Goodwin's (Ryan Eggold) story in New Amsterdam Episode 22. A lot is expected to happen here from Max's new treatment to the supporting characters' tales. But as the finale bears the name of Max's sister, Luna, what does it mean for the doctor?

According to CarterMatt, New Amsterdam Episode 22 title seems to be a reference to Max's sister. Luna tragically died at a young age, so her death seemed to have something to do with his brother's profession. Max might take Luna as his inspiration.

Max is now working at the same place where she died, so it may be his way to help others survive. Everything Max may be doing is for Luna, and she may be the reason why he is trying to be the best doctor that he can be. Hence, Luna's backstory may be at play in New Amsterdam Episode 22 to show what happened to Max's sister and its effect on him. It is also possible Luna will be the name of her new daughter.

"Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) works on a creative way to help Max and Kapoor (Anupam Kher) get surprising news," New Amsterdam Episode 22 official synopsis read. "Meanwhile, Reynolds (Jocko Sims) takes a big step in his relationship with Evie (Guest Star Margot Bingham) as one of the doctors makes a life-altering decision."

New Amsterdam Episode 22 will also feature Janet Montgomery as Lauren and Tyler Labine as Iggy. Lisa O'Hare and Dierdre Friel will be guest stars to play Georgia and Ella's roles, respectively.

Meanwhile, there are questions if Max is going to die in New Amsterdam Episode 22. Distractify reported it might be impossible for NBC to kill off its main character. So no, it might never happen.

Everyone knows Max is battling throat cancer. He even recently found out his treatments are not working that give birth to the theory that he might meet his demise. But as the show's story is based on Dr. Eric Manheimer's story, who is still alive and now teaches at New York University, Max might survive.

Manheimer plays as New Amsterdam's writer, and he revealed viewers would see many similarities between his tale and Max. Max agreed to undergo dose-dense chemo (DDC), aggressive treatment to cure his cancer. This treatment's side effects would be much worse for Max, and it might be at play in New Amsterdam Episode 22 that would be out on Tuesday, May 14, at 10 p.m. on NBC.
