BBC One has yet to order Bodyguard Season 2, but with the show's positive reviews and fans' strong support, there are assumptions it will be renewed for a new season. However, there are talks Richard Madden, who plays the lead character David Budd, will join the Marvel movie The Eternals, and it might affect the making of his TV series' new installment.
The Variety reported Richard Madden would join Angelina Jolie and Kumail Nanjiani in The Eternals. Marvel has yet to comment about the casting news, but there are reports the 32-year-old star would play the role of Ikaris, one of the movie's main characters.
Despite The Eternals' mainly focus on Angelina Jolie's character as Sersi, Richard Madden will be one of the immortal group's members. The film will be helmed by The Rider director Chloé Zhao as he adapts the comic book story of the near-immortal beings called "The Eternals" who will fight the villainous the Deviants.
So how does Richard Madden's casting on The Eternals will affect his stint in Bodyguard Season 2? According to CarterMatt, although BBC One has yet to renew the series, its success seems to assure there will be a new season.
One of the reasons behind Bodyguard Season 2's renewal delay is said to be the schedule, aside from creating a great story. Although creator Jed Mercurio is known as one of the best when it comes to storytelling, he needs time to create a good tale.
But even though Richard Madden's inclusion in The Eternals may affect Bodyguard Season 2 in terms of scheduling, being included in a Marvel movie may benefit the TV series. The new season may have more press time, may become the talk of the town, and eventually, end up of having more viewers and higher ratings.
The re is a high expectation surrounding Bodyguard Season 2 after the first season became one of the most successful shows on BBC One after 10 years. However, its success on Netflix has yet to be revealed as the streaming network doesn't share its ratings on the public.
There are also talks Richard Madden may be the next James Bond after his good performance in Bodyguard. There are rumors the Game of Thrones star will be the new 007 after Daniel Craig.
But with Richard Madden's new project as Ikaris in The Eternals and the possible continuation of David Budd's story in Bodyguard Season 2, he may find it hard to include James Bond filming schedule in his timeline. From the looks of it, fans have to wait and see how things will unfold for the actor's career now that he is beginning to be a sought-after actor.
