With only one episode left, The Big Bang Theory Season 12 is about to come to a close. Fans are now casting their theories of how the long-running American sitcom will end, and it includes Penny's (Kaley Cuoco) mysterious maiden name.

The Big Bang Theory has been on the air for 12 years. Its first episode aired in 2007, and Cuoco's character was only introduced as Penny. Years have passed, and the show is now on its season finale, but her maiden name renames to be a big secret.

So, will it be revealed in The Big Bang Theory Season 12 finale? Cuoco confirmed it would never happen. In an interview with TV Line, the 33-year-old star admitted she "kind of love" her character's maiden name to be hidden.

"So many things are revealed in the last few episodes; you get a lot of satisfying moments, but [not revealing her last name] I kind of love," she said. "I love it too because Johnny [Galecki] always says, 'It's Hofstadter! That's her last name!'"

 
According to Digital Spy, The Big Bang Theory Season 12 will conclude with an hour-long episode. It will also have a farewell special, titled Unraveling the Mystery: A Big Bang Farewell, that will follow the lead stars Cuoco and Johnny Galecki, who portrays Leonard's character, as they take the viewers behind the camera.

Cuoco said The Big Bang Theory Season 12 finale is one of the sweetest endings she has ever witnessed. Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon Cooper's role, on the other hand, admitted doing the final episode is like a "miniature death."

Vulture reported The Big Bang Theory Season 12 finale implies the end of an era. It managed to impressively run for 12 seasons that makes it's the longest-running sitcom in television history.

Surely, with The Big Bang Theory Season 12 finale, tears will be shed, emotional posts will be seen on social media, and souvenirs and memorabilia will be collected. To show what it feels and looks like when the long-running television series comes to an end, Galecki shared a video on Instagram, showing the show's set that plays as their second home for the past 12 years.

"Breaking down the @bigbangtheory_cbs sets on Warner Bros Stage 25," Galecki captioned the clip. "Coincidental soundtrack apropos."

The clip showed how the set got slowly dismantled while the Beatle's song, "Help," was playing in the background. Galecki then put the focus on his face and showed how sad he was. The Big Bang Theory Season 12 will officially end on Thursday, May 16, on CBS.
