On the day of the release, Taylor ensured that it would be magical for everyone, especially for her fans. She also spent the next few weeks in promoting her latest single by hinting that its music video is filled with "Easter eggs" that are actual clues for her upcoming album and next singles.
The merchandise for ME! has also become available on her website along with the "vinyl versions" of her CD. Plus, they all come with her signatures.
With these marketing and advertising strategies, it is no doubt as to why ME! has become a massive success. But as per New York Times, these efforts were not sufficient to fully beat Old Town Road at the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. As it appears, ME! was brought to second place at the chart.
The placements at the Billboard charts are tallied based on several factors. And these include the total sales of the single, radio airplay numbers, and streaming figures.
Although ME!'s copies had a total of 206,000 sales, which surpassed Old Town Road's 88,000 sales, the latter single-handedly beaten ME! in streaming and radio airplay numbers.
As it appears, Lil Nas X's single had over 100 million streams compared to Taylor's 55 million. And these numbers are just only for the last week. Even so, the fans remained firm that ME! will soon reach the top of the chart.
On another note, the hidden clues on ME!'s music video continue to amaze the whole fandom. While everyone thinks that they've already uncovered the secrets behind Taylor Swift's new single, the artist herself revealed that the biggest clues on the video are not yet touched. Nevertheless, she confirmed that these "Easter eggs" will soon unveil itself in the coming months.
