Fans can now celebrate as Pose Season 2 is about to hit the small screens sooner than expected. The show will feature a major time jump, but will continuously delve into the lives of the black LGBTQ+ community.
The creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Steven Canal would continue telling the underground ballroom scene of the LGBTQ+ community in the 1980s New York City in Pose Season 2. According to Deadline, the 53-year-old screenwriter, who is also behind the American Horror Story, revealed at the TCA Summer press tour that the new season would do a "one-year time leap."
Hence, Pose Season 2 will start in the 1990s, the time when Madonna's iconic single, "Vogue," hits the airwaves. "We talk about 'Vogue' and Madonna and how that shined [sic] a spotlight on the ballroom community and what were some of the exciting parts that came out of it, but also some of the challenges as well," Canal said at The Contenders Emmys.
Pose Season 2 would also focus on the AIDS crisis that leads up to Act Up, which was prevalent in New York in the '90s. Canal added they would address the HIV/AIDS activism and access to medical care in the series.
Meanwhile, Digital Spy reported MJ Rodriguez, Dominique Jackson, Billy Porter, and Indya Moore will all return to Pose Season 2 to reprise their roles as Blanca Rodriguez, Elektra Abundance, Pray Tell, and Angel Evangelista, respectively. However, it is not yet revealed if other originals characters would return in the new season.
Murphy also announced at PaleyFest the legendary stage star Patti LuPone would appear in Pose Season 2 as a guest star. He told The Hollywood Reporter that with the 70-year-old star's love for the series, they wrote her scene together. She would be playing a role for the show in a couple of weeks.
Pose Season 2 is set in New York City's underground ball culture, where gay and transgender gather to compete in makeshift fashion competitions, per TV Line. The House of Evangelista is forced to reevaluate its goals after the ballroom community establishes itself in pop culture to go mainstream.
It is also the time when the AIDS crisis gets worse, and the activists' reaction grows fever pitch. Pose Season 2 will have a new schedule after FX moves it to Tuesday nights, starting on June 11 at 10/9c - two days late from its original schedule on June 9.
