WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Supergirl season 4 finale. Read at your own risk.
Supergirl season 4 finale recently aired and it features a showdown with Lex Luthor. Here's what happened in the final episode of the season, titled "The Quest For Peace."
Supergirl season 4 finale aired on Sunday, May 19, and fans see more of Lex Luthor. Based on the synopsis, he descends upon Washington DC, and he summoned Lena and Lillian Luthor to the White House. Then, Supergirl realized that she only has one chance to stop Lex, so she turned to the power of the press to help her.
Going back to the penultimate episode, the Secret Service abducted Kara and kept her as a hostage in a hotel located at Washington DC. Kara insisted that she is a journalist, and no one has the right to kidnap just like that. But then, they told her they were only following presidential orders so they cannot let her go unless they were told to do so.
And then, Red Daughter was ordered to kill Kara, though she wanted to admit that she's wrong regarding the systematic corruption in America. Later on, Kara's knowledge about the Kryptonite helped her getting out of the situation. Supergirl then confronted Red Daughter, but she was almost killed. The good thing is that Alex reached out and Supergirl somehow resurrected.
Now, Supergirl season 4 finale will surely bring lots of action, especially with the Luthor family reunion. Lex's master plan is to manipulate the United States government and Kaznia into a war, utilizing Red Daughter - a clone of Supergirl discovered by the Kaznian military after the events happened in the finale of the third season.
Lex uses Red Daughter so he could frame up Supergirl about the acts of terrorism. In the latter part of Supergirl season 4 finale, Lex dies, but he reveals Kara's secret to Lena. While she seemed fine with it, it was shown later on that she's in her office at L Corps, drinking and there's a shattered photo of her and Kara.
So now that Lena learns about Kara's secret, this could probably set up another drama in the next season and could potentially set up Lena as the major villain. Some fans, however, already expected that this might happen at some point since the first appearance of the character in the series.
Meanwhile, Supergirl season 5 was announced and confirmed back in January. The news isn't a surprise for many, largely because the series is one of the most popular shows on The CW. Considering the release schedules of the preceding season, fans can expect the fifth installment arriving around October 2019.
And even though the official release date was not yet revealed, The CW announced Supergirl season 5 would be moving in a new timeslot. It will now be airing on Sundays at 9 PM, which is after the new Batwoman series.
