HBO is now working on a new Game of Thrones prequel after the original series recently ended.  The network already announced the show's coming a few months back, but it looks like fans will be up for a long waiting game for its release.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, HBO's programming president Casey Bloys talked about the Game of Thrones prequel and gave an update about the upcoming series. "I am not clarifying anything other than yes; we shoot the first pilot in June," he said. There are two more in development, and beyond that, there's nothing else to report."

Bloys asked fans to do the math and figure out when the new Game of Thrones prequel could hit the small screens. He later cleared he didn't want to specifically give an air date, as he wanted to make the show to be the best as possible be the network unveils it.

As it will be a new series, Bloys revealed the HBO is doing it the "old-fashioned way." Hence, he is expecting it to be great and will move along on a "regular television timetable."

According to HypeBeast, the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel may be out in 2021. As the show will start its production in June and Bloys feels like releasing it in 2020 is a little rushed, 2021 is the possible date that it will hit the small screens.

The casting for Game of Thrones prequel is already completed, and they are now in Belfast preparing and getting themselves ready when the cameras start rolling in a couple of weeks. Bloys also told Deadline he didn't want to overdo the epic fantasy series by creating a lot of spinoffs, as HBO has a lot of different shows coming this year until 2021.

"I think Game of Thrones is a fantastic property, but I don't want to just be the home of prequels and sequels and all that stuff," he explained. Bloys insisted they wanted to do things right, and he didn't want to rush anything out to take advantage of the show's fame.

The Game of Thrones prequel writer Jane Goldman didn't even change a thing on the new show to follow GoT Season 8 finale. HBO wanted to create a new series that would have an original story in its universe, insisting they are not trying to replicate George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novel.

The Game of Thrones prequel will neither have the same characters nor dynamics. It will have a different writer, creator, and different feels in a new world.
