WARNING: This article contains spoilers for This Is Us season 4. Read at your own risk.
This Is Us season 4 will be arriving later this year, yet the ending of the third season left some fans confused as to what happened to the aged, bed-ridden Rebecca in the flash-forward scene. She's suffering from some sort of illness, though it wasn't revealed what it is.
In a recent interview with TVLine during the NBC Upfronts, series star Mandy Moore talked about what happened to her character in that particular scene. She said they would not going to dip in the world for Rebecca too much as they need to "marinate" it a little bit. The actress also revealed she has questions of her own and reacted as to what happened to her character and what's her illness.
On the flash-forward scene, the Pearson family gathers at Kevin's house to visit Rebecca, and it's clear that she's suffering, and obviously, her health condition is deteriorating. From there, it's safe to say she isn't fine within that timeline and some even speculated she is blind or has an Alzheimer's disease, that's why Randall identify himself by his name.
But, Alzheimer's is very likely because Randall also clarified that he is her son, which only hints that Rebecca has probably forgotten about him. Also, the bad news here is that This Is Us season 4 will probably not jump into this timeline immediately, or at least during the first few episodes of the next installment.
The series still need to resolve several mysteries, like what's going on with them and what prompted the Pearson family to gather and visit Rebecca. Also, Nicky is also present there, so it adds more question that needed to be answered along the way.
Perhaps, This Is Us season 4 will prioritize other things instead. For instance, Moore said that viewers would be seeing more of Rebecca and Jack during the early days of their relationship - such as their epic road trip on the West Coast. Also, the fourth season might show what happened to Kevin after his relationship with Zoe fell apart.
Moreover, Toby and Kate are starting their lives as parents, and it seems like Baby Jack is going to be okay. While it is certain they'll be facing more struggles and problems in the future, the two will get through all of these as long as they stick together.
This Is Us season 4 will reportedly premiere on NBC this fall, most likely in September 2019.
