It has been already made known that Starz renewed Outlander for two more seasons. So, upon the end of the fourth season last January, it already calmed down the fandom about the plot's continuity and course.
But even so, the huge cliffhangers of the latest season still made it quite unlikely for the fans to calm down further and wait for the next installment. As it happened, it looks like there will be more chaos when Outlander returns for its fifth season.
The thought of having a happy ending for the show was already executed in the early moments of the fourth season finale. But of course, the show is very well-known for its notorious plots and events. And based on what happened, it seemingly appears that Murtagh's life is already on the edge when Jamie was given his first task which is to kill his own godfather, Murtagh.
As you may know, Murtagh has become one of the most favored characters in the course of Outlander. In fact, the character has been deemed as the "fan-favorite" persona in the show.
But it is also worth noting that Murtagh is already dead in the novels. Hence, his presence in the previous episodes is already on borrowed time for the character. Accordingly, many of the fans are now wondering if the writers will ultimately cut Murtagh from the big picture.
Although there are no confirmations about this matter as of the time being, things will surely unveil itself once Outlander Season 5 arrives on Starz. But as to whether it will be a good or bad plot for Murtagh, the next season will definitely revolve around this plot.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the showrunner mentioned that they might deviate from the plots and storylines published in the novels. Instead of following the pattern of one book per season, they might mix up the books of The Fiery Cross and A Breath of Snow and Ashes which are the fifth and sixth books in the series, respectively.
Needless to say, the show is up for a huge deviation from the original novels. And this could mean that Murtagh might not meet his demise, yet. But even so, many critics explained that the more they let Murtagh live in the show, the more the plot will deviate from the books.
But whatever happens, Outlander Season 5 will still be surely a treat for the fans. As for its release date, it has been theorized that the new season will arrive before 2019 ends.
