People who have been hoping for yet another Saw film are in for some good news. It has already been confirmed that Saw 9 is happening and comedian Chris Rock is joining the project. But could this mean that the new movie will serve as a reboot? Will Rock's involvement mean that a terrifying new John Kramer will be introduced?

There have been hopes for a new Saw film for some time now. After all, the previous film Jigsaw was released in 2017 and failed to thrill hardcore fans of the franchise. Luckily, Lionsgate has finally confirmed that Saw 9 is actually happening and even gave the possible reboot an official release date.

According to reports, Saw 9 is already in production and will be directed by Darren Lynn Bousman. The Saw IV director will be working with Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger, who have previously written the script for Jigsaw. Stolberg and Goldfinger will be helping turn Rock's story into a screenplay. But will it still feature new Jigsaw Logan Nelson?

There are speculations that Saw 9 will take a completely different direction from Jigsaw considering that the latter didn't do well in the box office. Some believe that this is the reason why Rock was brought on board. Although it is still unclear just how Rock's story will be different from the previous films, there is a possibility that the new movie will be a reboot of the original Saw.

If Saw 9 is indeed a reboot, it will need to introduce a new John Kramer who could then wreak havoc in another series of films. It doesn't sound like a good idea and Rock has somehow assured fans that he has no intentions of messing with the formula they loved because he is a fan as well.

"I've been a fan of Saw since the first film in 2004," Rock said. "I am excited by the opportunity to take this to a really intense and twisted new place." Luckily, it sounds like Rock is giving the Saw franchise a cool new spin.

In addition to providing the story for the ninth film, Rock will also serve as executive producer on the project. It has not been confirmed whether he will star in Saw 9 and there have been no casting updates on the movie just yet.

Saw 9 has already started production. The film is currently scheduled for release on October 23, 2020.
