BLACKPINK took their first win with “Kill This Love on SBS Inkigayo on April 21, 2019, and they won first place for the second time on the popular music program on May 26. Second place was WINNER’s “Ah Yeah,” and third place went to TWICE’s “Fancy.”

But the win and new records aren’t the only things worth getting excited about. On May 25, BLACKPINK’s “Kill This Love” officially became eligible for certified gold status. With over 500,00 units sold, they reached this achievement in less than two months.

BLACKPINK took over the K-pop world by storm during their debut back in 2016, and the girls haven’t lost their touch as their comebacks have always been a huge success. The YG Entertainment girl group’s popularity didn’t only stop in South Korea or Asia, but they have won the attention of K-pop and music lovers in the States.

Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa are so in demand that they have expanded their tour to the U.S. and even got the opportunity to perform at Coachella last month. This confirms that BLACKPINK is one of the most popular and successful K-pop artists right now.

Before their American debut, YG Entertainment already hinted the possibility. “We’ve actually been in contact with some of the best record companies in the United States about BLACKPINK,” the company revealed. “We believe we’ll be delivering some good news in the near future.”

The update was something that both local and international BLINKs are very proud of. But the label noted at the time that Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa would be focusing solely on their domestic promotions for the rest of 2018. And since BLACKPINK is at the top of their game last year when the statement was released, with “DDU-DU DDU-DU” dominating charts worldwide, YG Entertainment shared that the girls are already getting ready for the release of their next song.

“BLACKPINK made a comeback after a year, so their domestic promotions are first priority,” YG Entertainment reassured the fans. “They’ve finished recording their next song.”

And just as promised, BLACKPINK released a new song, “Kill This Love,” which is breaking record after record. The song has been a favorite choice of foreign dancers to cover on YouTube.

This isn’t the first time that BLACKPINK’s music has gone gold. Their hit song “DDU-DU DDU-DU” was the first of their songs to become eligible in only six months after release and now it’s quickly approaching platinum status. Now it’s only a matter of time before they make things official.
