Deep State Season 2 is now five episodes deep as the show only has three episodes to offer before it comes to an end. The current season started in April with the new lead actor Walton Goggins as Nathan Miller, replacing Mark Strong (Max Easton). In the upcoming Episode 6, the intense turn of events will continue to pave the way for the season finale.

Deep State Season 2 Episode 6, titled "The New Normal," will focus mostly on Aïcha (Lily Banda), Harry (Joe Dempsie), and Al Moctar (Alexander Siddig). "With Aïcha being dragged to a scaffold, Harry must plead his case and convince Al Moctar to hold off," its official synopsis read.

Deep State Season 2 has a big difference compared to the previous season. Season 1 was led by Strong, but the 55-year-old star chose not to reprise his role for the second installment. Hence, the current season delves into the "dirty war over clean energy" and a conspiracy that devours Africa's natural resources led by Goggins.

Goggins plays the role of a former CIA operative who is now a fixer in the deep state. In an interview with Digital Spy, the 47-year-old star cleared his role is never a replacement to Strong's character.

"I'm a big fan of Mark Strong, but I'm not Mark Strong - I'm Walton," he said. "It's just different. Positively or negatively, it's just a different experience."

Showrunner Matthew Parkhill initially contacted Goggins through email about the possibility of joining the cast of Deep State Season 2. He talked to the writer/producer on the phone about the show's story and what he would do. After reading the scripts, he revealed he couldn't put it down and found himself in South Africa three weeks later after cutting short his family vacation in Apulia, Rome.

Dempsie, on the other hand, celebrated Goggins coming to Dead State Season 2, although his on-screen father, Strong, didn't return to reprise his role as Max. The Game of Thrones star recalled the time when he was watching the actor in Quentin Tarantino's 2015 movie The Hateful Eight and was in awe by Goggins' performance.

"From that point on, I followed his career," Dempsie revealed. He also added Deep State Season 2 didn't have to center around Max's story, as the show could bring in a lot of new cast members that could help to expand its story.

Deep State Season 2 Episode 6, titled "The New Normal," will be out on Sunday, June 2, at 9 p.m. on Fox. The network has yet to announce if there will be a renewal.
