Netflix orders for Narcos: Mexico Season 2 due to the positive reception of its predecessor, although it moves away from the franchise's original story in Colombia. The new installment will continue to explore the Mexican drug trade with the return of its two lead characters, Diego Luna and Scoot McNairy as Felix and DEA agent Walt Breslin, respectively.
Narcos: Mexico Season 2 may probably explore the capturing of the drug lord after Felix negotiated his freedom in exchange of revealing the names of corrupt high-ranking officials. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Matt Letscher, who plays DEA agent James Kuykendall's role, revealed the show indicated Felix "got picked up," but he was never found in 1985.
"I think it got to the point where he was hiding most of the time, and I don't think he left Mexico," he said. Felix only got picked up by the military in the late 19877 and was released, the people who were still doing the job allegedly revealed.
At the time, Felix was said to be not living in a mansion anymore and not married to the same woman. Kiki (Michael Peña) didn't even know the answers to their questions, so he was kidnapped, interrogated, tortured, and his body was found on a farm in Mexico. They sacrificed everything for it, but it never paid off.
Hence, there would be a lot to explore in Mexico in Narcos: Mexico Season 2. They seemed to have Chapo, as the show crossed over with Escobar. It was pretty obvious, given the fact that they intended to explore that part of the story. Aside from that, there were also a lot of "drug trafficking armies" working in Mexico that could be part of the story.
Meanwhile, Mc Nairy returns to Narcos: Mexico Season 2 to reprise his role as DEA Breslin, per Radio Times. He used to be the mysterious narrator for the entire Season 1 until his real identity was revealed in the finale.
Luna, on the other hand, will also make a comeback to Narcos: Mexico Season 2 as narco kingpin Felix. Other stars that will be in the new season are Tenoch Huerta as Rafael Cara Quintero and the newcomer Teresa Ruiz, who will play the role of Felix's girlfriend as Isabella Bautista. Alejandro Edda will also make his way in the series as Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, Felix's protégé who will become the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.
Netflix has yet to announce when Narcos: Mexico Season 2 will be out, but it is expected to be released sometime this year. The production is now ongoing in Mexico City, the same place where Season 1 was filmed.
