The Walking Dead season 10 will be arriving later this year, but several characters haven't made it on the next installment. Tom Payne (plays the role of Jesus), in particular, has shared his thoughts and the storyline he wanted for his character if ever he hadn't been killed off.
In the midseason finale of The Walking Dead season 9, showrunners killed Jesus even though the character has potential in exploring important plots. A lot of fans, as well as Payne, felt Jesus' death was too soon and he hasn't even fulfilled his story from the comic the series is based on.
In a Twitter post, Payne said there's a story for his character that wasn't given a chance to develop. Fans shared that in the comic's issue 173, Jesus (whose real name in the series is Paul) and Aaron (portrayed by Ross Marquand) fight off Beta - the leader of Whisperers - and wanted more from the two.
A fan tweeted they wanted more of Paul and Aaron, then Tom quoted the particular post and regretfully wrote: "What could have been." In the comics, the duo was in a relationship, but their romance never made it on the series, and instead, they were only friends.
The actor is frustrated their romantic relationship in the comics wasn't developed in the series. And unfortunately, Payne's character was the first victim of the Whisperers in season 9, so his relationship with Aaron will not be explored in future seasons.
Meanwhile, Marquand previously revealed he wanted the plot to be taken in the comics and then would be adapted in the show. In a report from Comicbook, the actor said he would like to have a "hook up with Jesus." If ever the series followed the storylines of the comics, Payne's character will surely have a huge role and could prevent deaths of certain characters.
As per Express, The Walking Dead failed to adapt two important moments of Jesus in the comics. First, defeating Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), and then catching a grenade which he would throw back at the Saviors in their attack on Alexandria - saving many lives.
Previously, Payne said the changes in the storyline of Jesus were a "source of his depression at times." The death of his character also coincided with several high-profile cast departures; leaving gaps in the cast.
Meanwhile, The Walking Dead season 10 will reportedly air in October 2019 on AMC and Fox.
