The mystery of Rey's heritage has been something that people have been wondering about since the character was revealed ahead of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiere. Although it was somehow confirmed that Rey's parents were nobodies, there is a huge possibility that the actual truth will be revealed in Star Wars Episode 9.
Will we finally learn the identity of Rey's mother and her connection to someone from the original trilogy in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker?
There is no shortage of theories about Rey's true origins although it has already been dealt with in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. After all, most fans are not buying into the whole "nobody" revelation during the emotional exchange between Rey and Kylo Ren. However, a new leak from Episode 9 might confirm that Rey's parents were actually "somebody," or at least one of them was.
The Star Wars Episode 9 leak was reportedly shared by "a higher level Patreon exclusive" and was immediately picked up by Making Star Wars. Interestingly, the rumor purports that Rey is Han Solo's daughter, but her mother isn't Leia Organa. This would confirm that Rey is not a Skywalker at all but also reveals some backstory on what happened between Han and Leia.
According to the leak, Han and Leia were estranged for some time after they had Ben Solo. However, the reason behind their separation is the most interesting part of the rumor. Leia had reportedly abandoned Han so she could train as a Jedi with her brother Luke Skywalker. Unfortunately, she later decides not to complete her training and reunites with Han.
During their separation, Han ends up with another woman with whom he has a daughter who grows up to become Rey. Although it is unclear if Han or Leia knew about the child, it is evident that Ben learns about the affair and begins to act out. This would lead to his parents sending him to Luke for Jedi training.
So who exactly is Rey's mother and will she be introduced in Star Wars Episode 9? The leak doesn't delve into this but points out that it isn't Keri Russell's character Zorri Bliss. For now, it has yet to be confirmed whether the mysterious mother will appear in The Rise of Skywalker. Nevertheless, her connection to Han Solo could explain why Kylo Ren spoke harshly about Rey's parents in The Last Jedi.
Kylo had spoken ill about Rey seeing Han as a father figure, telling her she will simply be disappointed with him. Additionally, he seemed specifically spiteful in TLJ when he forced Rey to admit her parents were nobody.
Is Kylo aware that Rey is his sister? Hopefully, everything will be confirmed in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which premieres on December 20.
