Three years after they went on hiatus, Liam Payne talked about the band the made him famous, and the man that he is today -One Direction. Although he recently hinted what seemed to be a possible reunion, the 25-year-old star revealed the music they made was different from who he is.
One Direction is still on indefinite hiatus, so the rest of its band members, Niall Horan, Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson, went on their ways to have solo careers. Zayn Malik, on the other hand, left the group even before it took a break.
Although Payne already has his album, he is still yet to find his style. "'Strip That Down' was amazing and I was very happy about the success of it, but it did not necessarily paint the right picture of who I actually am," he told Esquire Middle East.
Payne admitted the music he had worked for One Direction was not his style and only did the "band stuff" for their fans. They would usually sell a tour before they make a new album to suit the concert-goers' taste.
If they would be performing on stadiums, Payne revealed the record producers would choose to create songs with "longer choruses," so people could sing along. At the time, they had to write new music while on tour.
Although what they had been doing was "backward method," Payne found it easier to work on new songs that way since they already knew their target audience. The hitmaker knew other artists didn't work that way, but they had no time, so they had to write a new music hit after hit quickly. "It was actually easier to write in that scenario because there were so many hoops you had to jump through," he said.
Payne also confessed that although he knows how to create songs for One Direction, it was not his choice of music. It was also not the kind that he would listen to.
Now that Payne is working solo, he revealed his style and fashion sense are all laid back as it is also his personality. He doesn't feel the need to hide behind the clothes anymore, and he can finally feel and enjoy who he is.
Meanwhile, Payne ignited One Direction reunion in his post on Instagram. While having fun on a rooftop in New York City, the "For You" singer captioned his series of snaps with "Story of my life."
The line is from One Directions 2013 album, Midnight Memories, and it quickly makes fans think there will be a reunion. In no time, the comment section is filled with questions and assumptions of a get-together, but Payne remains mum about it.
