The Affair Season 5 will take its final bow as it is set to tie all the loose it ends with 11 new episodes. As Showtime unveiled when fans would finally see the final season, news emerged Joshua Jackson, who plays Cole's role, would never return.

A source revealed to the Hollywood Reporter Jackson officially left the series and would not return to reprise his role in The Affair Season 5. His name was not seen on the press release that announced the premiere episode's release date.

The publication earlier reported Jackson had been considering leaving the show for a long while. At the time, the new season's details were not yet finalized, but his character's storyline already ended with the death of his former wife, Alison (Ruth Wilson).

The Affair Season 5 will explore the aftermath of the previous season's events. The remaining characters, which include Noah (Dominic West) and Helen (Maura Tierney), will end up dealing with the consequences of their choices.

The new season will also feature a time jump to reveal a now-adult Joanie (Anna Paquin), Alison and Cole's daughter. She will go on a mission to Montauk to try her best to analyze what happened to her mother.

Along with the release date, Showtime also revealed The Affair Season 5's new logline, via TV Fanatic. "Helen begins the season involved in an intoxicating new affair with Sasha Mann (Claes Bang), a charismatic movie star who offers to give her everything she's been missing," it read. "Noah, meanwhile, has to swallow his pride and his jealousy and step in to take care of his family in her absence."

But when things look calm, something is about to happen that will surprise everyone. Someone from the past is about to return and will make them down to their knees. As everyone wants to change their future for a better life, they have to deal first with their past.

The Affair Season 5 will feature how everything falls apart in the end. However, in the middle of the chaos, a sudden change will finally happen.

Sanaa Lathan, Julia Goldani Telles, and Jadon Sand will continue to be as series regulars in the final installment. Other returning stars are Omar Metwally, John Doman, Kathleen Chalfant, Russell Hornsby, Max Fowler, Abigail Dylan Harrison, and Jake Siciliano.

Michael Braun, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Claes Bang, and Lyriq Bent will also appear in the final season. The Affair Season 5 will be out on Sunday, August 25, at 9/8c on Showtime.
