NCIS season 17 is staging a big reunion in the season premiere between Ziva (played by Cote de Pablo) and Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon). Will the showrunners, however, also consider bringing back Mac (played by Catherine Bell) and Harm (played by David James Elliott) from JAG?
This issue was raised by fans after Mac and Harm appeared in the season finale of NCIS: Los Angeles season 10 last May. It was a surprising move since Mac and Harm were last seen when JAG wrapped up more than 10 years ago.
As viewers of this TV universe are aware, NCIS was spun from JAG and Gibbs was one of its original characters. When JAG ended, Gibbs went on to lead NCIS, and have been doing so for nearly two decades.
However, Mac and Harm's return to television revealed some bad news for the fans of the franchise, according to TV Insider. Mac and Harm did not end up together and have not been in touch in over nine years.
Mac had a serious discussion with Hetty (played by Linda Hunt) about her current relationship with Harm. What Hetty said to her, however, gave some hope about the future of these characters.
"The final chapter isn't written yet," Hetty said. Could this open more possibilities for Mac and Harm to also appear in other NCIS franchise and re-develop their storylines, including a reunion with Gibbs on NCIS?
It should be noted, however, that Mac and Harm's appearance on NCIS: Los Angeles did not significantly improve the show's ratings. Per TV By The Numbers, the show received just a minimal bump from 0.5 to 0.6 in the demographic viewers. Given these numbers, will CBS and the NCIS franchise still consider bringing Mac and Harm back?
At this point, Mac and Harm's appearance on NCIS is a matter of speculation as the show is still gearing up for a huge storyline involving the return of another character -- Ziva. It was a shock to fans when Ziva popped up in the season finale of NCIS season 16. Producers have confirmed she will be in the NCIS season 17 premiere, per TV Line. It's still unclear, however, if the character will recur or this will just be a one-episode appearance.
NCIS season 17 will return to CBS on Tuesday, Sept. 24. NCIS: Los Angeles season 11, on the other hand, will be back on Sunday, Sept. 29.
