Fans have been long waiting for Wynonna Earp Season 4 since Syfy renewed the show. There are reports its production company IDW Entertainment is experiencing financial difficulties, so it has yet to begin filming. But as its third season is about to be out on Netflix, will it help the company to fund the series?

Syfy renewed Wynonna Earp for Season 4 at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2018, ahead of the third season's conclusion in September of the said year. Nine months have passed, the network is yet to announce any update about the new season.

In February, even its lead star Melanie Scrofano tweeted she had no idea of the show's future. "All we know is we aren't shooting right now and don't know why," she said.

As it incites cancellation scare, fans use the hashtag #FightForWynonna on social media to campaign for Wynonna Earp Season 4. They even put up billboards in Times Square in New York City to make noise about it, per TV Insider.

So to clear all the worries, Syfy finally issued an official statement about the matter. It said the network is "completely committed to the series." However, the production is still up to IDW Entertainment. Deadline reported at the time the company is "experiencing financial difficulties, running a deficit, and couldn't proceed" with the new season's the production just yet.

IDW Entertainment, on the other hand, insisted it is still committed to continuing Wynonna Earp Season 4. Although it didn't go on details about the new season's production, it said it is in the process of working out the show's information on how the story would continue.

In another update, IDW Entertainment said everyone involved in the series is working behind the scenes to do another season. It promised to give new details and keep fans updated whenever they have further news.

But as Wynonna Earp Season 3 is about to come to Netflix in July, will it help IDW Entertainment's financial woes to work on Season 4? According to CarterMatt, one of the issues the company has to face is the proper international licensing agreement.

It needs to find ways to earn money from all over the world to fund its production cost. Although it already received from Netflix for the first two seasons, there was no agreement for the third season at the time. Now, things have changed.

Although Season's licensing agreement is no assurance that Wynonna Earp Season 4 will be work on, it may help it to have a proper international distribution model that may secure its future. Wynonna Earp Season 3 will be out on Netflix on July 16.
