The majority of the fans of Taylor Swift are very much excited for the new era that the artist is currently offering. With its pastel-colored themes and "girly" accessories, it seems that almost everyone loves the so-called "TS7 era." But right now, it seems that things are changing for her.
When Lover's leadoff single, ME!, was released last April 26, most of the people are nodding with Taylor Swift. This is because her cringe-worthy snake-ish era is officially done, and it looks like her old self is back for good.
However, when her new album has released its second single, You Need To Calm Down, it did not calm everyone down. Instead, it created a huge commotion, and the single became controversial. As it happens, a lot of people think that the former country star-turned-pop star is just using the LGBTQ community for her latest craze.
And when the music video the second single dropped a few days later, things got even more intense for everyone as the video features a star-studded cast that is all known for being an LGBTQ member and ally.
In light of these shocking events, a lot of people have shared their thoughts and opinions about Taylor Swift's new era. And based on the general critical reception, it seemingly appears that not everyone is happy with what she's doing. Several members of the community asserted that she is just "capitalizing" on the rainbow-themed alliance as per Insider.
There are also claims that the pop star is proclaiming herself as the new "gay icon" as a definite nod to Cher and Lady Gaga, who are well-known LGBTQ allies ever since the beginning of their careers.
But as a response to these claims, Datebook contends that gay icons are not made. Madonna, Ross, and Garland did not announce that they are "gay icons," the community did. But unlike Taylor Swift, it seems that she's screaming that she wants to be an icon for the community through her latest single. And that is a huge no-no for everyone. It's "cringy." Also, it is pretty "annoying" as per some reports.
Even so, Indiewire shared a glimpse on what the other members of the LGBTQ community have to say about Taylor Swift and her latest single. And based on their reception, they think that the video is nice and colorful. But they also think that their opinions are "irrelevant" and that it would not matter at all.
