Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) are about to face a lot of tough challenges in Outlander Season 5. But aside from the problems these characters have to face, people behind the show also have their own trials that they have to deal with.
With the thickness of Diana Gabaldon's A Fiery Cross, on which the new season is based, there are a lot of events happening in the novel series. However, as the next chapter only has 12 episodes, it is impossible for the showrunners to include everything from the book.
According to CarterMatt, Outlander Season 5 makes a significant change when it keeps Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) alive. Although his character already died in the book series, viewers seem to be in favor to keep him alive.
Murtagh is a fan-favorite character, but there are still debates about his storyline. By keeping him alive, it will impose changes to the whole series in general, that will affect everyone's plotlines.
In an interview with Parade, executive producer Maril Davis revealed there are consequences they have to take by keeping Murtagh alive. "He has a story that he wouldn't have had if he had died at Culloden ... But we think the story is really interesting, and we are going to play it out and see," he said.
Fans are still reeling to see more Jamie and Claire scenes in Outlander Season 5, and Davis seems to promise that it will happen. "We hope that we still get in the fan-favorite moments, and still have those Jamie and Claire connections and those intimate moments that people are looking for," he added.
In the new season, Jamie will have a hard time to decide if he will capture his grandfather to fulfill his task. Express.co.uk noted Jamie might find a way to let Murtagh escape in the new season premiere.
A theory suggests Jamie may use Roger (Richard Rankin) to stand-in as Murtagh. In the previous season, Roger was deeply bothered when he found out Brianna (Sophie Skelton) was pregnant with her rapist's baby.
He tried to travel back to his time, but he changed his mind at the last minute. He then got reunited with Brianna.
But as Roger is not part of Jamie's "good books" anymore, he may introduce him as the fake Murtagh to save his godfather. However, Claire and Brianna may not allow him to do it. So, find out what will happen in Outlander Season 5 when it hits the small screens later this year.
