After failing to bag the top spot through ME!, Taylor Swift seemed to ensure her future at the Billboard Hot 100 Chart through her recently released controversial second single, You Need To Calm Down.
Aside from the intriguing tones that this new single offered, it also tackled various social issues that served the LGBTQ community. Of course, everyone talked about it ever since its release last June 14. Even up to date, the commotion that it started is still ongoing.
But while the uproar benefits more You Need To Calm Down and Taylor Swift, it still fell short to the Billboard Chart. As it happened, the ME! artist failed, once again, to claim the top spot. Instead, she bagged again the second place next to Lil Nas X's Old Town Road.
According to Fox News, it seemingly appears that Taylor Swift might have already met her "kryptonite" in the industry. And it looks like that she has met her match in terms of her music career.
Lover's singles, ME! and You Need To Calm Down, became an immediate viral hit. But it's not enough in comparison to Old Town Road's vast growing success. As a matter of fact, this country-trap track by Lil Nas X already broke several records ever since its release in April.
Aside from obtaining the number 1 spot on the Billboard Chart, Old Town Road is now named as the "longest-running" single of 2019 that top that charts since its arrival as per HuffPost. And with its twelfth consecutive week being named as the king of the charts, it is now the 20th track in the six-decade history of the Billboard Hot 100 to keep the number 1 spot.
With these record-breaking credentials at hand, many critics suggest that Taylor Swift will no longer rise to the charts just like she did before. This is in consideration of the fact the ME! and You Need To Calm Down are her leadoff and second singles, respectively.
And any Swiftie knows that the leadoff and second singles of her albums are always the biggest tells of the album's path once it arrives. So, having these current standings for Lover's released singles only depicts that the album might not achieve its optimum success.
Nevertheless, most of the fans of Taylor Swift remains hopeful that the remaining 16 tracks of the album would change the game once Lover drops anytime soon.
