The world mourned the loss of an icon when Princess Diana died in a tragic car accident in 1996. The Princess was much beloved by fans of the Royal Family because of her charisma, charitability and fashion sense that set a new bar for members of the aristocracy.

During the years of her marriage to Prince Charles, it became no secret to the public that she has become quite outspoken about her relationship with her husband and their troubled relationship. It was her controversial appearance in BBC's Panorama which sealed the fate of her marriage to the prince.

According to royal author Andrew Morton in his book William and Katherine, Their Story, Princess Diana developed an aversion to any issue about Prince Charles and his then affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles and used a bitter sense of humor to poke fun at her life as a royal, reported LT.

Morton detailed stories of when the Princess would stop midway into a phone conversation and simply tell royal aides that it was time to change the tape. Because of the scandal that rocked her marriage, the author said that the Princess developed a sense of paranoia that she was always being watched by the Palace at all times.

"The Princess believed not only that the Palace was conspiring against her, but that the security forces were routinely tapping her telephones. With hindsight, it is easy to understand why," Morton detailed.

It was already difficult living under the microscope of public opinion, but Princess Diana felt like she was also being monitored by the people who were assigned to protect her.

It was believed at the time that the Palace was concerned about the state of Prince Charles and Princess Diana's marriage and that they were initially opposed to any divorce between the two royals.

In a report by Express, sources indicated that Prince Charles was ready to go though with divorce long before Princess Diana agreed to it, but it wasn't until Diana's tell-all interview with Panorama that the Queen sent a letter to both Charles and Diana to go through with the proceedings.

It can be recalled that during the interview, Princess Diana revealed several bombshells about her husband's affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles. She also openly talked about her bout with bulimia and her postnatal depression after the birth of Prince William. She also discussed her affair with her riding instructor James Hewitt.
