Most royal fans have welcomed Meghan Markle's marriage to Prince Harry and rejoiced at the American actress' fairy tale journey. However, the prince's marriage to a commoner, and one of different ethnicity has sparked negative attention from some royal stalkers.

It has been reported that since Prince Harry's marriage to the Suits actress, there was a sudden spike to the number of royal stalkers or those who are considered to pose a serious threat to the safety of the members of the royal family. Weeks after the wedding to Meghan Markle, police revealed that they were on the lookout for 160 individuals whose obsession with the new Duchess of Sussex could be considered dangerous.

It was reported that the number hit an all-time high after a spike noted after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their relationship public in 2016. Profilers theorized that the American's ethnicity might have been a factor in the uncanny interest these royal stalkers have taken.

"The fact that Harry married a woman of black origin could, in some maniac eyes, give rise to further concern," Met Police's former royal protection head Dai Davies said at the time.

While the Royal Household fully supported Prince Harry's choice of a lifetime partner, it seems that Meghan Markle's citizenship could become a very real issue for herself and her son Archie Harrison.

Most recently, the US has become stricter in the enforcement of a 1986 legislation that takes a particular interest in tax refuges, or high-income earners who renounce their citizenship for financial gain.

Under the legislation, those who retain their American citizenship will have to pay taxes to the US no matter where they are in the world. The legislation gives the US government the power to bar re-entry of those whom they consider tax refuges to US soil.

This means that if Meghan Markle retains her US citizen along with her British citizenship, all of her income will be subject to tax in both countries, and this could also affect the status of her son. This legislation has been the subject of dispute for some people who have American citizenship because of their birthplace but have migrated elsewhere after their birth.

According to CNN, if Meghan chooses to retain her American citizenship, the US government, through the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) would be empowered to go through the accounts of the Royal Family to determine the duchess' tax dues.
