There is little doubt that fans are already waiting for an official announcement about the Outlander Season 5 premiere date. After all, the new season has already started production in April 2019 and should be complete by the end of July. However, there might be a major factor that could lead to the fifth season being moved to a much later release date. There are speculations that Sam Heughan and his busy schedule could lead to the Starz series getting a 2020 return.
2019 is turning out to be a really good year for Sam Heughan. After all, he has been cast in two major projects which are currently in production and the Spy Who Dumped Me star has just received his honorary doctorate from the University of Glasgow. Although it's an amazing year for Heughan, fans are also concerned that all these could affect one particular aspect of his life. There are speculations that Heughan might be too busy to continue filming Outlander Season 5.
It's hard to imagine what Outlander would be like without Sam Heughan. People have continuously applauded his portrayal of Jamie Fraser, the 18th-century warrior who falls in love with the 20th-century woman Claire Randall. Playing Jamie is still one of the most important roles in Heughan's career and there is little doubt that the Starz series is one of his first priorities. But will all the other projects force Heughan to spend too much time away from working on the show?
Fans need not worry about Sam Heughan causing any trouble for Outlander Season 5. The SAS: Red Notice star has confirmed that he is hard at work on the new season although it is taking much longer than expected. Heughan revealed that the cast and crew "only shot two and a half episodes" since there is so much to cover in the fifth season.
"I think the sheer size of what we're dealing with now and the sheer numbers of cast and of locations, as well, is a challenge," Heughan said. "We're still shooting in Scotland for America, so that's a challenge, too."
Although it sounds like the cast and crew are going through some difficulties, there is little doubt that they will manage to work around their obstacles. Hopefully, this could mean that the fifth season will premiere in late 2019.
Outlander Season 5 has not yet been given an official premiere date. Nevertheless, the series is expected to return on Starz by late 2019 or early 2020.
