Jason Reitman will continue his father's legacy by helming Ghostbusters 3, referred to as Ghostbusters 2020, after Ivan Reitman directed the first two movie installments. The younger director is said to make sure to stick to the original film's storyline to give fans what they have been looking for.
In an interview with Ernie Hudson, the original Ghostbusters star Winston Zeddemore, he revealed Jason would bring the new movie to a whole new level. "I think he's gonna take it to a whole other level," he said at Celebrity Fan Fest, via Movie Web. "As we move into the future, I'm just really excited that he's gonna give the fans what they've been looking for."
Hudson feels glad that Jason is the one who directs, produces, and writes Ghostbusters 3. As Ivan's son, he was still a kid when they did the first two fantasy comedy films in 1984 and 1989. Jason even made an appearance in Ghostbusters 2, so the 73-year-old actor is assured that the director loves the movie franchise.
He even compared Jason's take of Ghostbusters 3 to Paul Feigh's all-female Ghostbusters film. The Oz star continued to say that even though the film led by Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, and Leslie Jones was good and enjoyable, it was not what the fans wanted.
So to give what fans want to see, Hudson assured the upcoming film would be more in line with the original movie. "So, I'm excited about it," he added.
Comic Book reported Ghostbusters 3 would be a sequel to the first two movies. However, the new film will mostly focus on new characters, which include a 12-year-old girl (McKenna Grace), her brother (Finn Wolfhard), and mother (Carrie Coon). These three reportedly has a mysterious connection to the original cast members; Winston, Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), and Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis).
Reitman, on the other hand, confirmed Hudson, Murray, Aykroyd, and Sigourney Weaver already read the script he wrote with Gil Kenan. According to We Got This Covered, Jason seems to be planning to get the original cast members back together in Ghostbusters 3.
Murray and Weaver will reportedly return to reprise their roles as Peter and Dana Barrett. Unfortunately, Ramis already passed away in 2014, but there are rumors that he might be seen in the film through CGI. Rick Moranis and Annie Potts might also return to play their characters as Louis and Janine once again. Ghostbusters 3 is due for release on July 10, 2020.
