Earlier this week, the music industry went in shock when Taylor Swift published a blog on her Tumblr account. In it, she explained her disappointments about the fact that she lost all of her rights to the masters of her first six albums.
For any artist in any industry, losing the rights of their works is truly a nightmare. This is why it is not that really hard for the fans to support Taylor in her latest conflict.
However, things started to become much more complicated when the involved individuals started to speak their own sides. As it happens, Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun do not agree with what Taylor Swift has written in her blog post. And according to Complex, the ME! artist has been playing the victim card, once more, in this new conflict of hers.
It all actually started when Taylor's old record label, Big Machine Record, founded by Scott Borchetta, was sold to Ithaca Holdings for over $300 million. The media company is apparently owned by Scooter Braun, who is the manager and representative of Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, and Kanye West.
Upon the business movements made by Scott Borchetta, all of its rights are now sold as well to Ithaca Holdings, including the masters of Taylor Swift's albums.
Given the situation that Scooter Braun, along with his artists, is actually the known individuals who had disputes with Taylor in the past, it is only logical for the Look What You Made Me Do singer to feel that she's been "bullied" once more. And considering the fact that her albums will be held by these people, she cannot bear the thought of the situation as per Metro News.
According to Taylor Swift, she has not been given the chance to purchase back the rights of her album. As it happened, she was only given a deal that she would be able to get it all back if she would sign a new contract with Ithaca Holdings to which she declined and eventually losing the chance to get the rights.
This revelation caused division in the music industry. Many celebrities like Halsey, Brendon Urie, Cara Delevigne, Iggy Azalea, Martha Hunt and a lot more has taken Taylor's side. On the other hand, artists like Demi Lovato, Justin Bieber, and Sia has been sharing their support over Scooter.
As per Buzzfeed, Taylor has been known to play the victim card ever since her career has started. So, this current conflict that she has might also be another tactic from her.
Scooter Braun also shared his side that what Taylor has shared on her blog is not at all true. In fact, he explained that he tried to speak with Taylor before the business deal moves forward. But sadly, the two personalities are telling two different stories which make the whole issue so much more complicated.
