The christening of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was a very sentimental affair for the royal family as it brings together Prince William and Prince Harry with Princess Diana's sisters -- Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale. The milestone event was also made more meaningful by the subtle tributes to Princess Diana.
The attendance of Princess Diana's sisters to Archie Harrison's christening was quite significant, especially to fans of the royals who are more familiar with Prince Charles' side of the family. It also proved that after their mother's death, Prince Harry had maintained a good relationship with his aunts.
Prince Harry made sure that Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale were honored at the taking of the official family portrait. Princess Diana's sisters had a place of honor right behind Harry, Meghan and their bundle of joy and in between Prince Charles, Harry's mother in law Doria Ragland and his brother Prince William.
According to a report by Hello! Magazine, Princess Diana's sisters have always maintained a low key relationship with their nephews. They were even the first to visit Harry and Meghan after the birth of their son Archie last May. It comes as no surprise that Harry missed no opportunity to give his aunts the royal treatment on a significant day in his son's life.
Based on the official statement from the House of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was christened at the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle in a service officiated by no less than the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.
In terms of fashion, Archie was baptized wearing a handmade replica of the royal christening gown which has been worn by royal infants for the last 11 years. Several generations wore the original Royal Christening Robe which was commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1841 on royal christenings, but due to the age of the family heirloom, the antique has been preserved. Royal grandchildren from 2004 onwards wear a handmade replica of the Christening Robe to be worn by generations to follow.
"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are so happy to share the joy of this day with members of the public who have been incredibly supportive since the birth of their son. They thank you for your kindness in welcoming their first born and celebrating this special moment," the statement read.
The photograph was made even more significant by the fact that it was taken in Windsor Castle's drawing room where they famously took the family photo for Harry's christening. Kate Middleton also paid her tribute to her late mother in law by wearing the same earrings she wore during Harry's christening, Cosmopolitan Magazine reported.
