On June 16, the Matt Damon and Ben Affleck drama series, City On A Hill, has finally arrived on Showtime. The crime drama show starring Kevin Bacon and Aldis Hodge takes back the audience in the early ’90s when crime and corruption in Boston are at an all-time high.
The premise of the series, which is based on true events, immediately caught the attention of many as these happenings have indeed impacted Boston, along with its citizens. As it happens, the viewers have easily picked up where the show is headed and what it offers to today’s community and welfare.
After airing five episodes on the network, the pilot run of City On A Hill has shown a promising course. Although there are a few concerns that have been shared about the series’ dynamic, it still displayed fair numbers and ratings. But what held the viewers into watching the show is the fact that it features the origin of the well-known so-called “Boston Miracle” as per Refinery 29.
As any current event-engaged individual would recall, Boston Miracle is the result of the Operation Ceasefire in the ’90s. As it occurred, it is the initiative established through a huge collaboration between the policemen of Boston and Criminology professor, David Kennedy.
Along with the city’s juvenile corrections officers, street workers, churches, community programs, and other neighborhood programs, more than half of the apparent crime rate in Boston dropped dramatically. And for more than 18 months, no one under the age of 17 was killed and murdered.
But of course, the initiative only started when things have fallen extremely out of control. And this happened in the early ’90s just after the conclusion of the infamous Stuart murder case.
According to Esquire, the story of Carol Stuart’s murder alongside the “racial hoax” within its vicinity was a crime that “rocked Boston” down to its core. And the aftermath of this infamous murder became the threshold of the city’s daunting situation which is when City On A Hill started its course.
The pilot episode of the newly added crime drama series on Showtime primarily begins with a “title card.” And it directly points out that the infamous Stuart case in 1989 was the beginning of “hell” in Boston.
City On A Hill is now five episodes deep. And its sixth episode titled, It's Hard to Be a Saint in the City, is set to air on July 21, on Showtime.
