It is still a long wait for Doctor Who Series 12, but it looks like the next season of the beloved BBC series will be something that Whovians can truly enjoy. A new report confirms that Doctor Who Season 12 will be bringing back the Cybermen who last faced the Twelfth Doctor played by Peter Capaldi. In addition to that, the stakes are said to be much higher for Jodie Whittaker's Time Lord. So just how dark and scary is the upcoming season?

It has already been confirmed that Doctor Who Season 12 will reintroduce the Judoon, the rhinoform humanoids who usually serve as mercenary police. These menacing characters debuted in the episode 'Smith and Jones' back in 2007 where they went up against David Tennant's Tenth Doctor. However, Series 12 is set to bring back some old favorites as well. The Cybermen are coming, and they are after Jodie Whittaker.

The Cybermen have been a part of the Doctor Who mythos right from the start. They were some of the first villains that the First Doctor William Hartnell faced in 1966 and have continued to terrorize the Time Lord at almost every regeneration. The Cybermen were last seen in 2017 where they attacked the Twelfth Doctor. Interestingly, the attack led to Peter Capaldi to regenerate into the Thirteenth Doctor Jodie Whittaker.

So why are the Cybermen after the Time Lord this time? The plot for Doctor Who Series 12 is not yet clear although the source claimed that it would involve Mary Shelley, who are then inspired to write her book Frankenstein after an encounter with the cyborgs. In addition to that, the Cybermen might ensure that the stakes are higher in the upcoming season of the BBC show.

According to the source, things are about to get more dangerous for the Time Lord in Season 12. "This new run is much scarier than Jodie's first year and will definitely put the frighteners on fans. Things are about to get darker for the Doctor," they said. This should make sense, considering that Mary Shelley ends up penning one of the terrifying stories ever written.

Doctor Who Season 12 has not yet been given an official release date. However, the new season is expected to be preceded by a holiday special that could air on Christmas or New Year's Day. There are speculations that Series 12 will premiere on BBC in early February.
