Lauren Cohan's character, Maggie Greene, in The Walking Dead might be back at some point, according to the series' showrunner. The actress first joined the AMC zombie series in season 2 and stayed until season 9 before stared in the ABC's Whiskey Cavalier. But since the show is now canceled, it is possible Cohan's character will be back in The Walking Dead season 10?
In a report from Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Angela Kang said they are working on bringing back Cohan's Maggie in the series. However, things aren't that easy as there are several issues that needed to be addressed. For instance, the actress and AMC should agree on the financial terms, which is something they had trouble doing before Cohan went to the ABC series.
Another issue here is how they could fit the character back in the program. In season 9, Maggie was not killed off. Instead, she left the Hilltop with her daughter Hershel and joined the mysterious character Georgie in the hopes of helping other communities. So, bringing Cohan's character back in The Walking Dead season 10 is not that easy.
Although Whiskey Cavalier has already been canceled, the AMC series has started filming for season 10, and the season-long story arc has been mapped out. But then, there's still chance Cohan could join the series in another way. She could make her come back and join Andrew Lincoln in one of The Walking Dead movies centered on Rick Grimes' story.
The trilogy of The Walking Dead films has been announced, and the casting has reportedly begun as well, so Cohan's character might be fitted into that storyline. AMC noted it would feature two young female protagonists and will focus on the generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse.
Meanwhile, fans knew Cohan would be leaving the series during the first half of the ninth installment, yet they didn't know which episode. After the six-year time jump, viewers realized Maggie left, which is also the same episode as Rick in "What Comes After."
And then in The Walking Dead season 9 episode 7, Alanna Masterson's Tara and Tom Payne's Jesus had a conversation and it was revealed Maggie was off with Georgie and they are forming a new community. The character's name popped up numerous times throughout season 9, yet she never resurfaced.
The plan of bringing Cohan back in The Walking Dead season 10 made many fans excited - yet it remains unknown when and how. For now, fans need to wait for further announcements and until a confirmation is made.
