Xiaomi Launching Its Own Smartphone On Snapdragon 855+

Lu Weibing, Xiaomi's general manager officially confirms on the Chinese social media site Weibo that the company is currently developing a Redmi smartphone with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855+. The GM adds that the device might be released in the latter part of 2019. He also invites fans to guess which among the Xiaomi family of smartphones will be the first to run on the latest SoC from Qualcomm.

Snapdragon 855+

Generally, there is really nothing much new with the Snapdragon 855+. But one of the most notable changes is the Kyro 485 CPU Prime core that is now clocked at 2.96 GHz. Compared to the Snapdragon 855, it is just a meager 4 percent improvement. The GPU, however, is more interesting considering that Qualcomm said that the Adreno 640 would have around 15 percent performance enhancement.

Aside from these two major changes, the majority of the specs of the Snapdragon 855+ are the same as its predecessor. It is still utilizing the X50 5G modem and the X24 multi-gigabit 4G LTE modem. According to its latest press release, the company shared that consumers will have to wait up to the end of this year to see the first smartphone that utilizes this new powerful SoC.

Geekbench Result

A new Geekbench posting, however, reveals that consumers might not have to wait until the end of the year to get their hands on a device running on Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+. As seen on the image below, it looks like ASUS is already gearing to release its Asus ROG Phone 2. The test broke Android Geekbench record when it tested its Asus ROG Phone 2 with 12 GN RAM and Snapdragon 855+.

On Twitter, serial leaker named Xiomishka revealed that the Asus ROG Phone 2 is slated to release on July 23, which is just a few days ago from the time of this writing. With the latest Soc from Qualcomm designed for VR and gaming, it is not a surprise to see ASUS try its luck in the smartphone industry by integrating the Snapdragon 855+ on its upcoming smartphones.

Other smartphone makers also announced that they too are going to release future devices with Snapdragon 855+. This includes Lenovo, Oppo, and iQOO, among others.
