It has been over a year ever since The Expanse Season 3 has concluded. And while the fears of the show's cancellation erupted before the finale, the fandom's uproar was immediately put to rest as Amazon picked up the show to continue its course.
According to Screen Rant, Syfy cancelled the series after its third run due to the agreements that they have with the show and Alcon Entertainment. And while it was saddening that it will no longer air on the network, it is just a fitting and logical action. Even so, Amazon has seen the success of The Expanse causing them to commission a new season.
As of the time being, there are no actual updates about the show. But based on recent reports, it has been revealed that the production and filming have already concluded last February. So, it is only a matter of time before a trailer and teaser will be released to the public.
In terms of its premiere date, little has been shared about it as well. But Inverse has claimed that The Expanse Season 4 will definitely arrive "before 2019 ends." Accordingly, it is only safe for most of the fans to assume that it will arrive in December of this year.
There are also huge assumptions that the upcoming season will essentially cover the fourth novel titled, Cibola Burn, from the book series. Nevertheless, the beginning of the new installment will surely pick up where the show last ended.
The third season apparently concluded with the Rocinante passing through The Ring. Although the first plan of action was to destroy it, they finally realized what they must do in order to survive. And upon learning that they can open the gates of The Ring and much more when passing through them is viable, the next season will likely focus on the other side of The Ring.
Even so, Cartermatt states that The Expanse Season 4 will still show events on Earth and Mars. So, even if the other side of The Ring will be the focal point of the season, the plot will not leave the other territories behind.
It is also revealed recently that all of the regular cast members will return and reprise their roles. In addition, new characters will also take part in the new season of the show.
