It's no secret that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will reveal what will happen to Rey, the mysterious girl from Jakku who happens to be one of the most powerful Force users in the galaxy. However, people are also looking forward to finding out about Kylo Ren's fate. After all, the former Ben Solo has a truly tragic storyline that deserves a satisfying conclusion. But did the Star Wars Episode 9 trailer confirm that Kylo is set for a redemption arc this December?
The first trailer for The Rise of Skywalker was revealed in April at the Star Wars Celebration panel of the highly anticipated film. Not surprisingly, the teaser focused mostly on Rey and the other heroes of Episode 9. On the other hand, the movie is the final installment of the Skywalker Saga, so it also offered some glimpses at Kylo Ren. At first glance, it looks like Kylo is truly the bad guy, but things appear to be different once you take a closer look.
People have pointed out that Kylo Ren is clearly shown attacking a member of the Knights of Ren in the trailer. This in itself should be a sign that Kylo is turning his back on his past since the Knights of Ren are said to be some of the villains in The Rise of Skywalker. Although the fight is unclear, there is a huge possibility that Kylo no longer associates himself with the Knights of Ren. On the other hand, his former companions might be fighting against the First Order in Episode 9.
Interestingly, the same scene hints at Kylo Ren's redemption arc for a different reason. In the shot, Kylo is not wearing his helmet, which is also shown being repaired in the teaser. This might simply mean that the fight takes place before the helmet is fixed. However, some believe that it indicates that Kylo has once again destroyed his helmet as a symbol of his redemption.
It is still unclear just how it might happen but Kylo Ren being redeemed in Star Wars Episode 9 certainly makes sense. Given the film's title and the fact that it is the last movie in the Skywalker Saga, people are already expecting Ben Solo to die with honor. This should be a fitting conclusion for The Rise of Skywalker and an interesting end for one of the last Skywalkers.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will premiere on December 20.
