The return of the Shelby clan for Peaky Blinders season 5 is almost here. The show has had its premiere in Birmingham and its television release is likely coming in August.
According to Esquire, though BBC has not announced a solid date for the release of Peaky Blinders season 5, all indications point to an August release. Last July 18, the show launched its the first episode of the latest season at the Birmingham Town Hall, the setting of the story. It was followed by a screening on July 23 at the BFI Southbank.
Further, BBC iPlayer has once again uploaded Peaky Blinders seasons 1 to 4 on its platform for U.K. viewers. In America and other regions, however, fans will still have to wait a few months before the episodes become available on the Netflix streaming platform.
Meanwhile, Steven Knight confirmed that Peaky Blinders season 5 won't be the last time viewers will see Tommy Shelby (played by Cillian Murphy) as a politician. In fact, the character is going to be an MP for South Birmingham for a while longer.
"The fact that Tommy is now an MP for South Birmingham means that he has to retain his contacts with the people of Birmingham," the creator said, per BBC News. "We all know that he has many motives, but what I'm trying to do over the long game is to rehabilitate him."
Speculations are that Tommy may have a significant role in stopping the British Union of Fascists from creating more damage to the socio-economic and political status. There's a good chance he will clash with fascist leader Oswald Mosley (played by Sam Clafin) in Peaky Blinders season 5.
The new season will find Tommy facing the most challenging forces he's ever faced even if he's in the position of power as a politician. Knight, however, said that Tommy can only get more powerful as the episodes progressing, which suggest that he could end up gaining a more lucrative position in the government by season's end.
Back in Birmingham, however, the Shelby clan will go up against the Billy Boys of Glasglow in Peaky Blinders season 5. At some point, some of the Shelby family members will also be traveling to the U.S.A.
Peaky Blinders season 5 also stars Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, Finn Cole and Harry Kirton. The new season is expected to have six episodes as with the previous seasons.
