The first season of Doom Patrol certainly took an interesting direction as it introduced several quirky characters that are so different from the usual superheroes featured in comic book shows. It was a refreshing change that had its brand of humor and weirdness that people immediately fell in love with. So it's no surprise that the eccentric DC Universe series has just been renewed for a second season. In addition to that, Doom Patrol Season 2 has been confirmed to air on two different streaming services.
There's no other TV show out there that could compare to Doom Patrol. The first episode of Season 1 certainly didn't waste any time getting into some major weirdness as it revealed how Mr. Eric Morden became Mr. Nobody and Rita Farr accidentally unleashed her true form in the town of Cloverton. And that's just in the first 30 minutes of the pilot. Things got a lot weirder in the succeeding episodes and fans loved it.
Luckily, people can now expect a second season of more weirdness next year. The DC Universe panel at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Com has announced Doom Patrol Season 2 will begin production soon and is expected to air in 2020. In addition to returning on its original streaming service, the series is set to be one of the first original shows to air on HBO Max, the new WarnerMedia streaming app that will launch early next year.
It's certainly welcome news for people who are hoping that they haven't seen the last of Robotman, Crazy Jane, Negative Man, Elasti-Woman, and Cyborg. Fans have been understandably concerned about the series being renewed after several DC Universe shows ran into trouble throughout production.
Swamp Thing has been embraced with equal love by fans although the series was canceled by Warner Bros. shortly after the first episode aired in last May. The reason was not revealed although it is believed that the show went over budget and had some trouble during production. Nevertheless, people are hoping that the studio will change its mind about renewing Swamp Thing for a second season.
Another DC Universe show also had some trouble before the SDCC panel. The production of Titans Season 2 had to be shut down when Warren Appleby, a special effects coordinator, was accidentally killed during a rehearsal for a car stunt. Production was only halted for two days, but it understandably had a shocking effect on the cast and crew.
Doom Patrol Season 2 has not been given an official release date but is expected to premiere on DC Universe and HBO Max sometime in 2020.
