The fifth season of Supergirl is bound to be huge considering that Kara Danvers will be facing several new villains. The Girl of Steel will be up against the DC supervillain Leviathan in Supergirl Season 5 while also having to deal with the wrath of Lena Luthor. Now, another baddie has been confirmed to join the CW series and she sure has a familiar face. After all, Jennifer Cheon Garcia has appeared several times in the Arrowverse before landing a major role.
The report comes from Variety confirming that Jennifer Cheon Garcia will portray the DC character Midnight in Supergirl Season 5. The character is "described as the physical manifestation of darkness" who happens to be "a murderous villain released from an otherworldly prison to enact revenge against the person who put her there." Garcia has previously worked on other CW shows like Supernatural and The 100.
It's certainly different from the Midnight that appears in the DC comic books. In the comics, Midnight is actually a male masked vigilante who wears a fedora and a suit while fighting crime. It is still unclear if Jennifer Cheon Garcia is simply playing a gender-reversed version of Dave Clark. However, the description released by The CW certainly suggests that this is a completely different character.
Interestingly, Midnight's story arc could be connected to Jennifer Cheon Garcia's numerous appearances in two other Arrowverse shows. She had previously played an SCPD officer in Arrow and also appeared in the pilot of The Flash as a paramedic. Could Garcia be playing the same character throughout Arrowverse who eventually becomes a villainous metahuman seeking revenge? The truth could be revealed in Supergirl Season 5.
While Midnight's true purpose is still a mystery, the fifth season's official trailer that debuted at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con confirms that Lena Luthor has a simpler mission. After being told by her brother Lex Luthor about Kara Danvers' true identity, Lena seems determined to hurt the Girl of Steel for her betrayal. Although there are powerful new villains that will be showing up in the series, it's clear that Kara's greatest nemesis is still her own best friend.
Can Kara Danvers handle Midnight, Leviathan, and Lena Luthor all at the same time? Will Lena prove to be Kara's greatest weakness? Find out when Supergirl Season 5 premieres on The CW on October 6.
