Dwyane Wade had a colorful NBA career and is now enjoying his life after basketball. With plenty of recruiting going around, the 37-year-old recently gave his take as far as the Miami Heat is concerned. He proudly said that he never recruited anyone to come to South Beach and that the big names who played with him all came on their own.
“Never. I’ve never had to pitch a guy on Miami. I didn’t have to pitch Shaq (Shaquille O’Neal), he came on his own. I didn’t have to pitch LeBron [James] and Chris [Bosh], it was more so about what we could do together, not necessarily where it was going to be at," said Wade in an interview with Sports Illustrated.
The summer has been hampered with plenty of recruitment with several teams getting stronger thanks to the recruitment process anchored on several key figures. That would include player agents like Rich Paul, who has been time and again believed to be influential in the decision of his clients. The most notable of them all is, of course, Anthony Davis who will be finally playing for the Los Angeles Lakers alongside James next season.
Having just wrapped his NBA career, Wade continues to adapt to post-basketball life. He conducts basketball clinics for some younger NBA players and has been offering advice to anyone who needs counseling, Heat Nation said.
Aside from that, the fifth overall pick of the 2003 NBA Draft is doing his part in helping his son, Zaire, towards a possible basketball career. There are scouts who have taken notice of the three-time NBA champion's son. Wade is there to guide and offer advice, perhaps the best person Zaire can look up to right now.
It has not been a smooth transition for Wade, who continues to extract basketball from his daily routine. Looking at his basketball resume, there is no question that Wade has accomplished so many things any NBA cager would want. That is perhaps the reason why the former high-flyer who bared that he has a deep feeling of satisfaction since retiring from the game.
"I walk away just smiling and happy with what I did in that phase of my life. I got so much more life left so now I'm focused on what can I accomplish in this life," said Wade in the same interview with Sports Illustrated.
And what if James, for some reason, coys him into returning? Here is what Wade had to say.
"I can't do it," said Wade. "I'm sure there's somebody in the NBA [that's] highly capable. But it's not me."
