There is little doubt that DC and Warner Bros. had an amazing hit with Shazam!, which was a commercial success. So it's no surprise that the studio is already planning a sequel to capitalize on the fans' enthusiasm for the DC comic book character. However, it turns out that Zachary Levi's caped superhero isn't the only returning in Shazam 2. The second film could focus more on the Marvel Family, or Shazam Family, as well as the diminutive villain Mister Mind and his sinister plan.

The first Shazam! movie certainly had a huge surprise for comic book fans. In the film's third act, Billy Batson (Zachary Levi) decided to share his powers with his adoptive siblings Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer), Mary (Grace Fulton), Eugene (Ian Chen), Pedro (Jovan Pena) and Darla (Faithe Herman). As a result, all five children became adult superheroes, just like Billy's alter ego, and they were able to defeat Doctor Sivana (Mark Strong). Not surprisingly, this won't be the last time that the Marvel Family will be seen on the big screen.

Director David F. Sandberg recently spoke to Backstory Magazine about Shazam 2, and he somehow confirmed that the sequel could explore how the siblings will work together. "It feels like we could do more with the Shazam family. We just introduced them, but you could explore how they work as a family of heroes," Sandberg said. This is certainly a welcome idea for fans who want to see more of the powerful characters in action.

Interestingly, the Shazam Family aren't the only ones who could return in the Shazam! sequel. David F. Sandberg also hinted at the return of Mister Mind, the little worm he voiced in the first movie. "We threw in a little mid-credits scene with Mister Mind, and you could go down that road," he said. However, he also pointed out that the second movie "could introduce another villain" since "there are plenty of ones to choose from in the Shazam world."

Mister Mind first showed up in the opening sequence where the young Thaddeus Sivana was transported to the Rock of Eternity. The alien worm was then absent throughout the movie but somehow reappeared in the mid-credits scene. This time, Mister Mind visited the imprisoned Sivana and proposed an alliance. The scene strongly suggests that Shazam 2 will bring in the Monster Society of Evil, which includes Black Adam.

Shazam 2 has not yet been given an official release date. However, DC and Warner Bros. could make an official announcement before the end of the year.
