Queen Elizabeth and her granddaughter-in-law Meghan Markle are the best of friends. They send text messages constantly and have their language and inside jokes, according to a royal expert.
Duncan Larcombe spoke with FOX News to define the kind of relationship between the Queen of England and the Duchess of Sussex. He said that the two women in Prince Harry's life are particularly close and the Queen has made adjustments to include the former Suits TV star in the family.
"The queen, last year in the first few months of Meghan's entry into the royal family, made a particular and slightly unusual effort to welcome her in," the former royal editor revealed. "Unusual in the context of the trip on the royal train to do a royal engagement. I am 99 percent sure she's never afforded that offer to Kate."
The news comes following reports that Queen Elizabeth invited Duchess Meghan to spend her 38th birthday at Balmoral in Scotland, where the Queen is currently spending the summer. Larcombe believes that the royals may have learned so many lessons from the past. It has been quite daunting to deal with the issues surrounding Princess Diana, Prince Harry's mother, and Wallis Simpson, the American wife of King Edward VIII, who gave up the Crown.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl also observed that Duchess Meghan quickly bonded with Queen Elizabeth. Apart from their closeness, the Queen has also given Meghan responsibilities so early into her inclusion in the royal family.
Nicholl believes that the Queen sees how much she has made Prince Harry happy. In her book, "Harry and Meghan: Life, Loss, and Love," the royal expert wrote that the former TV star is also best friends with the iconic royal.
However, Duchess Meghan has received criticisms for not including the Queen in her British Vogue guest editor gig. Instead, she featured teachers, scientists, doctors, advocates and activists in her feature, including New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, women's rights advocate and actress Salma Hayek Pinault, as well the former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama.
Some critics thought that she should have featured the royal in the "Forces of Change" special issue. The epitome of grace for over 70 years, royal watchers wondered why the Queen was excluded in the issue.
One royal commentator said that Queen Elizabeth has likely thought that Duchess Meghan's choices for British Vogue were "idiotic" and "ridiculous." The palace, however, has not made any comments about the said magazine.
