Amazon's spy drama featuring John Krasinski in the titular role is returning for Jack Ryan season 2. While last year brought the show in the Middle East, this time, Jack will be tracking terrorist activities in South America and Germany.

According to TV Line, the events of Jack Ryan season 2 will unravel with a suspicious arm shipment in Venezuela. The country's leader, President Reyes (played by Jordi Molla) is this installment's main villain as he has a plan to launch a counter-attack using powerful weapons of mass destruction against the people who want to take him out of office.

CIA operatives like Jack will try to stop Reyes from causing a global war.  Jack Ryan season 2 will also touch on the current crisis that the country faces.

"As Jack's investigation threatens to uncover a far-reaching conspiracy, the President of Venezuela launches a counter-attack that hits home for Jack," the synopsis in the press release read. "Leading him and his fellow operatives on a global mission spanning the United States, U.K., Russia, and Venezuela to unravel the President's nefarious plot and bring stability to a country on the brink of chaos."

However, there are also speculations that Jack Ryan season 2 will also show some similarities to the movie Clear and Present Danger, where Jack becomes the deputy head of the CIA and learns that there is a covert war brewing among members of the drug cartel. Released in 1994, this Jack Ryan film starred Harrison Ford.

Jack Ryan season 2 is meant to be a stand-alone series separate from the first season. However, some regulars are expected to return in the next installment. Aside from Krasinski, Wendell Pierce and Abbie Cornish will reprise their roles as Jack's former boss and girlfriend, respectively.

"We're viewing each of these as an eight-hour feature film," showrunner Carlton Cuse told The Hollywood Reporter about Jack Ryan season 2. "We're trying to make it big and cinematic. We're very conscious in the rhythm of our storytelling to make sure that we are rising in and out from intimate scenes to big, giant [scope-filled] scenes that you would expect in a giant action movie."

However, there will be plenty of new faces in Jack Ryan season 2 to keep the stories interesting, such as Noomi Rapace (Prometheus),  Micheal Kelly (House of Cards) and Tom Wlaschiha (Game of Thrones). Amazon has not yet announced the second season's release date as of press time.
