After Huwaei's unveiling of its in-house HarmonyOS (operating system), after Google cut major ties because of the ongoing trade issues, the company announces that its Honor Vision TV, due for domestic release, will be the company's first device to use the OS.
The Chinese tech giant's own ecosystem will replace Goggle Android's operating system in most computer-related hardware.
Though Google and other US companies that cut ties with Huawei could still work with the Chinese tech giant, the US would need permits that would put on additional costs that will get shouldered by consumers.
Besides, with the constant challenges of having a consistently smooth experience with many devices because of millions of code, HarmonyOS is needed to address such challenges according to Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei's consumer business group.
The Honor Vision TV will not only work as a TV but also as a central unit for other smart devices making it an internet-connected TV being becoming part of Huawei's "internet of things."
Besides, Huawei, now the second-largest smartphone maker behind Samsung and ahead of Apple, sees developing their own OS a normal step.
Just like Google and Apple, Huawei has speakers, 5G modem and smartwatches that could become its smart TV's support.
The HarmonyOS TV could also be a smart speaker that could manage many devices at the same time.
Because Honor TV has chipsets from Huawei's HiSilicon, known for semiconductors inside smart devices, it will get operated from a phone or a tablet.
Though HarmonyOS will soon be found on almost all internet-related devices, like PCs, tablet and other wearable gadgets, for now, Huawei will focus on their HarmonyOS smart TV.
Though ready to be used for phones Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei's consumer division, said that though Huawei would "prefer to continue using Android" on its phones, the moment it can't anymore, it would "switch to HarmonyOS at once.
Based on Goggle's statement that Google Play and the security protections from Google Play Protect will continue to function on Huawei phones, the company also added that "Huawei has made substantial contributions to Android" and had been a "key global partner" that helped them "develop an ecosystem that benefited both users and the industry."
Harmony smart TV can also be a second screen for a device. Its 1080p camera is perfect for video calls.
It's also useful for computer processes needing facial recognition.
Coming in two types, regular and Pro versions both support 4K resolution.
The standard version is RMB 2,799 ($680) while the Pro version is RMB 3,799 ($396.)
The HarnomyOS smart TV of Huawei will get released on August 15.
