Prince William didn't always know he was supposed to be king one day. He found out the hard way about his destined role from classmates when he first went to school.

According to a report by Express UK, Prince William believed he was just like any normal boy before he went to school and other kids started treating him differently. Royal author Andrew Morton, in his book William and Catherine: Their Lives, Their Wedding revealed that William wanted to be a police officer before his dreams were shattered by his future as king.

Prince Harry, being even younger than William, was not the one to spare his brother from brutal teasing. When Harry learned about his brothers' plans to enter law enforcement, he said frankly that it was impossible because he was going to be King.

It was also revealed that when he was young, the young Prince William would tell his mother than he didn't want to be king. However, Harry, who has always been cheeky, often joked that, if his big brother didn't want the job, he would be glad to step up.

It was believed that Prince Charles and Princess Diana wanted Prince William to experience a normal childhood and spared him from the weight of future role as long as they could. However, children in school who knew that he was a prince constantly asked him about the queen, his grandmother, leading to the second in line to the throne to find out that he was going to inherit the responsibilities of the monarchy one day.

Nowadays, Prince William has grown accustomed to his role as the future heir to the throne and must also prepare his children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis for the same. Opting to follow the same path as his parents, William said that he has no plans to reveal the truth to his eldest son George that he is third in line to the throne.

"I love my children in the same way any father does, and I hope George loves me the same any son does to his father. We are very normal in that sense," Prince William said in an interview with The Sun.

William and his wife Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, often take their children to do normal things like swimming and picnics to help them enjoy their childhood away from the limelight.
